Download Photarium

One archive per platform, with everything inside: the server with the web interface built in, the admin tool, and the backup tool. On a Linux server, the one-line installer is the easier path — it downloads, verifies and sets up all of it for you.

Photarium is designed for Linux servers.

Windows builds are provided for edge cases — testing, evaluation, unusual environments — and are not recommended for production.

Files

These links always point at the newest release. A new release is published automatically with every update.

Linux x86-64

amd64 — most servers and VPSes.

What's in the archive

  • photosd — the server, with the web interface built in and optional automatic HTTPS.
  • photosctl — the admin command-line tool, e.g. photosctl set-password <user>.
  • backupctl — backs up the database to your private bucket.
  • photarium.env.example — the configuration template, with every setting explained.
  • LICENSE and README.txt.
  • Linux archives also contain the systemd units.

On Windows the programs are photosd.exe, photosctl.exe and backupctl.exe.

Verify the download

SHA256SUMS lists the SHA-256 checksum of every file in the release. Download it next to the archive and check. On Linux (use arm64 in place of amd64 on ARM):

curl -fLO https://dl.photarium.waxquixotic.com/latest/photarium-linux-amd64.tar.gz
curl -fLO https://dl.photarium.waxquixotic.com/latest/SHA256SUMS
sha256sum --check --ignore-missing SHA256SUMS

It should print photarium-linux-amd64.tar.gz: OK. If a release was published between your two downloads the check fails; download both again.

On Windows, in PowerShell, from the folder holding the download (curl.exe ships with Windows 10 and later):

curl.exe -fLO https://dl.photarium.waxquixotic.com/latest/SHA256SUMS
$expected = ((Select-String -Path SHA256SUMS -SimpleMatch 'photarium-windows-amd64.zip' | Select-Object -First 1).Line -split '\s+')[0]
(Get-FileHash .\photarium-windows-amd64.zip -Algorithm SHA256).Hash -eq $expected

It prints True when the file is intact. Or, from Command Prompt, print the hash and compare it by eye with the photarium-windows-amd64.zip line in SHA256SUMS:

certutil -hashfile photarium-windows-amd64.zip SHA256

The checksums come from the same host as the archives. They prove the download was not corrupted in transit — not that the host is trustworthy.

Unpack

tar xzf photarium-linux-amd64.tar.gz

From here, follow the installation guide. The installer does all of this itself, so you only need to download by hand for a manual or offline install.

Specific versions

The current version number is published as a single line of text at /latest/VERSION. Every release is also kept at a fixed, versioned address:

https://dl.photarium.waxquixotic.com/v<VERSION>/photarium-<VERSION>-<os>-<arch>.<ext>

For example, to fetch the current release by its versioned name:

VER=$(curl -fsSL https://dl.photarium.waxquixotic.com/latest/VERSION)
curl -fLO "https://dl.photarium.waxquixotic.com/v$VER/photarium-$VER-linux-amd64.tar.gz"

To install or pin a particular version with the installer, set PHOTARIUM_VERSION — see installer variables.
